The Dog Who Stopped the War
Growing up my sisters and I were given very limited television viewing options. The list of 80's/90's television classics we have never experienced is tragic: Full house, Boy Meets World, Smurfs, Care Bears, 90210, I could go on. Needless to say our choices were limited, National Geographic, Christian Animation, Family Matters and National Film Board of Canada Productions were pretty much all we were allowed. Parental approved, family favourites included: National Geographics Mating Rituals of African Elephants (a true education), Adventures in Odyssey, and most memorable of all, The Dog Who Stopped the War.
Looking back The Dog Who Stopped the War and the "Tales for All" series were French-Canadian made-for-TV movies that were poorly dubbed in English and very low budget. I'm not sure what the attraction was, but looking back it was the essence of 80's Canadiana. The Dog Who Stopped the War will always remain a true canadian classic.
This sad but true history of our family has left one major scar in our family psyche, to this day we all have horrible taste in movies. It's a tragic flaw. Never watch a movie that Joyelle picks out, it is sure to have bad acting, no wardrobe guy and a disturbing plot line.

Polish Fashion Week
Lodz, Poland, the country's textile hub,
recently hosted 2012 Polish Fashion Week.

Nostalgic Gopher Love
My favourite childhood memories always consisted of family vacations and road trips. My father would keep his eyes open for road kill that he could eventually taxidermy -- once he picked up a snowy owl who was the victim of a barbed wire fence. The owl was placed in the back of our wood-paneled station wagon, alongside me and my sisters, while we traveled across rural Saskatchewan. It eventually made a home in our freezer where it lived for years. Unfortunately, it never reached it's full potential as a taxidermy altarpiece.
Torrignton Gopher Museum, of Torrington Alberta, mixes my nostalgic love of road trips and taxidermy. If you ever get the chance to travel across rural Alberta you should probably hit it up. In the meantime, here's some budget pics that'll whet your desire of shadow box taxidermy.
